DESCRIPTION
THE ITALIAN CUSTOMS OFFICE (R. DOGANA DI PORTO LAGO)
Construction of this building of peculiar architecture begun in 1933. After the war, the Police Station of Lakki occupied the first floor and some years ago, the Officers’ Club of Leros was housed on the ground floor. The first intervention on the building, according to oral testimony, took place during the period of English occupation, when the area on the right of the main entrance was transformed into a prison. Recently, the building was repaired, but it was not changed back into its original form, as the large gate of the southern side was closed and small columns were added on the first-floor balcony. Fortunately, these interventions were of limited scale and did not alter the physiognomy of the building.
