DESCRIPTION

The Italian Telecommunications (radio) are located in old Aghios Nikolaos. The area got the name “Radio” from the use of the Italian building.

The role of radio contact and timely information was very important during the war. For years, it remained intact, as if ghosts would wander around at night. In the huge, empty rooms with the impenetrable iron doors and railings on the windows, there is a feeling that “Morse code” will be heard, and radio operators, headphones on, will suddenly appear!! The frequencies used were such that allowed communication with Cairo, Italy and Rhodes, but not with the other end of the island!! Therefore, during the 5 critical days, batteries used messengers and exchange of canon fire to communicate between them! One thing is certain! Germans cracked the codes and, thus, got immediate information!!”
