“Pityki – Apetiki. This is an area, very few have visited. The “Lago” battery is situated on a hill, opposite the Venetian castle of Leros. The German attack on 12, 13, 14 and 15 November 1943 broke the resistance of both the Italians and the English. The Brandenburg coastal raiders and the Kustenjager group were determined to conquer the hill, as well as the entire island… The German troops captured 3000 English and 5000 Italian soldiers. This was the last great battle of the German army!!”
