An air-terminal, defensive infrastructure, artillery batteries and a whole new city are some of the developments that took place in Leros by the Italians during the Interwar Period. Italians, Germans, English and Greek, soldiers, orphans, exiled, psychiatric patients and refugees are some of the 100.000 people that were hosted in Portolago city.
In an unknown city, in a small Island in the edge of Aegean Sea, the whole modern European history unravels.
“Last night I dreamed that I went back in Lakki”. With this phase, borrowed from Alfred Hitchcock, and taken as such by “Rebecca” of Daphne du Maurier, the movie starts expressing in fact my feelings about Lakki. I will never forget the first time that I saw Lakki. I did the movie in order to find answers to my own questions. Who, when and why did such creation and how it is possible that is being ignored from the rest? Not the rest of Leros or Greece. The rest of the world!
